Though often thought of as bleak, the Endangered Species Act has actually been quite successful in saving species from extinction. Its success stories are many, and three are highlighted in this article. The bald eagle was brought back from the brink of extinction due to the Act, and is now a protected national symbol. The whooping crane was also on the verge of extinction, but has made a strong comeback due to conservation efforts. The American alligator was hunted to the point of near-extinction, but has since been brought back and is now thriving. The Endangered Species Act has been successful in saving these and many other species, and is an important tool in the fight to protect biodiversity.
