You Don’t Have to Be Rich or Famous to Help People

Have you watched one of those heartwarming shows on TV where the show’s hosts completely transform the lives of others? These feel-good shows have become super popular during the pandemic because they give us hope in these strange times. If you find yourself sitting on the couch matching endless reruns of these types of shows because you need a little serotonin boost — imagine how great you would feel if you decided to spend your time helping people first-hand.

Here’s the great news: you don’t need to donate thousands of dollars or completely renovate someone’s home to make a difference.

There’s this common misconception that you need to be rich or famous to make a worthwhile impact. While celebrities and wealthy people can donate endless amounts of money to their favorite charitable organizations, it’s much more meaningful to spend your time and energy helping others. The biggest impact doesn’t come from people who have the ability to throw money towards a worthwhile cause — the biggest change happens because of people like you and me.

While donations certainly don’t hurt the cause, money would have no use if it weren’t for hardworking people who dedicate themselves to truly make a difference through actionable steps.

Volunteering is rewarding for the people you’re helping and for yourself. The pandemic has taken away the feeling of togetherness and connection from us. But, there are still ways we can volunteer from our own homes. Unified Caring Association and its partner Dear God Are We There Yet? have a list of virtual volunteer options that allow you to sift through listings from different organizations and causes so you can find one that resonates with you. There are listings for just about every cause you can think of. And from around the world.  We encourage you to turn off that TV, find a cause that will fulfill you. Everyone wins!
